2017 CARMÉNÈRE, OAK KNOLL - NAPA VALLEY

TBD Wine

Originating from the Medoc region of Bordeaux, France, Carmenere was used in blending but now is almost exclusively grown in Chile. Carmenere is very dark skinned and a cross between Cabernet Franc and Trousseau grapes. It is thought to have first been planted by the Romans in Bordeaux. The name Carmenere comes from the French word for crimson, Carmenere tends to be rich bodied with smokey, spicy and earthy aromas. Medium tannin, the aging potential is similar to Cabernet Sauvignon.  Enjoy this rare varietal wine and with your friends as it will spark conversation.

This is my 3rd vintage of Carmenere with the first two vintages under the Capiaux label and a big hit. I planted it in my back yard, a little over an acre about 10 years ago. The soil series is Pleasanton Loam, with very little rock, more in the silt loam category.

A dark, deep purple wine with ripe plum aroma with flavors of black and blue fruit. Cranberry and black currant, white pepper and minimal green bell pepper which is a beloved characteristic of this varietal.
