Fermentation Conditions: This second vintage went through partial malolactic fermentation to enrich the finish and aged sur lie with light stirring for 10 months until bottled.
The Chalone appellation is unique in that volcanic limestone soil interspersed with decomposed granite deposits resemble Burgundian soils in France. The vineyard sits 1800 feet above the Salinas Valley Floor on a bench on the west side of the Gavilan Mountains. It receives less than 10 inches of rain annually and has dramatic temperature variations, night to daytime highs. Brosseau transitioned to organic farming in 2006 and Certified Organic for 11 years. Wine of this region have distinct minerality and great aging potential. This is my last vintage of this wine so please savor and enjoy it!
Light golden in color with a brilliant appearance. Classic chardonnay aroma of freshly baked bread, apples, and melon. Flavors include brioche, a mixture of green and red apples and only a slight toastiness. The Louis Latour barrels compliment the wine by contribute appealing aromas of beeswax, marshmallow cream, churned butter and vanilla. This wine should age nicely.
